Innovative registration platform will power expansion of event services
Easthampton, MA – As of February 22nd, athleteReg has combined forces with Boulder-based Pocket Outdoor Media (POM), parent company to the strongest brands in endurance and outdoor sports such as VeloNews, Podium Runner, Trail Runner, SKI, Triathlete, Climbing, Warren Miller Entertainment, Roll Massif, FinisherPix, and more. Following a proven track record of building new value in the endurance and outdoor sports industry, POM announced yesterday that it has acquired Outside Magazine, Outside TV, Gaia GPS, Peloton Magazine, and athleteReg. These brands make our new company the world’s leading creator of active living content, experiences, travel, and services. We now deliver content to almost every home in America across every platform, screen, and device.
Additionally, Pocket Outdoor Media is rebranding to Outside, effective today.
“As an industry leader in event registration, athleteReg was an obvious choice to expand the support we provide to our members and readers,” said Robin Thurston, CEO of Outside. “Events are an important part of many people’s lives, bringing joy, competition, community, and self-discovery into their lives in safe, supported environments. The acquisition builds on our commitment to deliver outstanding content, experiences, utilities, and other services to active living enthusiasts. Steve and Ross have built a tremendous company, and I’m excited to welcome them and their team into the Outside family.”
“With the continual evolution of the active lifestyle space, we have had a desire to expand the services and support we provide event organizers,” said Ross Krause, VP, Head of Event Registration Services. “When we entered the conversation with Outside, it quickly became clear that the integration of our event platform with the content, training, event photography, and other elements of the platform will be a huge asset to our event participants and directors.”
The partnership between Pocket Outdoor Media and athleteReg will bolster the service and products for both event directors and event participants. For our event directors, the new Outside will provide access to more than 70 million of the world’s most engaged outdoor, wellness, and endurance enthusiasts every month. And we will have the creative and technical capabilities to facilitate conversations with our customers in any format, channel, or interactive medium you can imagine.
For cyclists, runners, skiers, and triathletes, these acquisitions create an unrivaled breadth of inspiring and informational content—the kind of storytelling that turns passion into participation. These brands also bring fantastic new benefits to our Active Pass membership, a fast-growing offering that gives consumers access to hundreds of dollars in value in the form of premium digital content, print subscriptions, event entries and photography, books, gear discounts, a personalized feed, and interactive experiences with editors, pro athletes, coaches, and other experts.
